It is a duty to donate. Charity should be done to the right person at the right time. The reward should not be expected for the charity done. Such charity is considered a satvika. The tradition of donating in Hinduism has been around for centuries.
In the temple, the priests spend their time in the worship of God, in chanting of mantras, in the service of God, and in devotion. For this reason it is considered as Saatvika.

Reason 2
The priests who worship God in the temple do not do any other job without worship. They have no other sources of income. Donations from the temple or devotees are the livelihood of them and their family. It is for this reason that since ancient times, it is said that the Keeping money on the aarati plate has been adopted.
Reason 3
It is also said that the tradition of putting money on the Arati tray has been made for the services of the mother cow. Accordingly, the money collected on the Aarati tray is used for the service of the Gomata. Previously, many temples were running a goshala and serving the cows.
ಆರತಿಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಾಗ ನಾವು ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಹಾಕುವುದು ಏಕೆ?
ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂಜೆ ಆದ ನಂತರ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆರತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.. ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಹಾಕುವುದರ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರಣಗಳಿವು.
ಕಾರಣ ೧:
ದಾತವ್ಯಮಿತಿ ಯದ್ಧಾನಂ ದೀಯತೇನುಪಕಾರಿಣೇ|
(ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ)
ದೇಶೇ ಕಾಲೇ ಚ ಪಾತ್ರೇ ಚ ತದ್ಧಾನಂ ಸಾತ್ವಿಕಂ ಸ್ಮೃತಂ||
ದಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ. ದಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಂಡು ದಾನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ನಂತರ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲವನ್ನು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಬಾರದು. ಇಂತಹ ದಾನವನ್ನು ಸಾತ್ವಿಕ ದಾನವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವು ಶತಮಾನಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಇದೆ.
ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಚಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ದೇವರ ಆರಾಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಂತ್ರಗಳ ಪಠಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ದೇವರ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಭಕ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಸಾತ್ವಿಕ ದಾನ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಕಾರಣ ೨:
ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಅರ್ಚಕರು ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇನ್ನಾವುದೇ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇರಾವುದೇ ಆದಾಯ ಮೂಲಗಳು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದ ಅಥವಾ ಭಕ್ತರಿಂದ ಸಿಗುವ ದೇಣಿಗೆಯೇ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಜೀವನಾಧಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದಲೂ ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ ಇಡುವ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಢಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದರು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕಾರಣ ೩:
ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ ಇಡುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವನ್ನು ತಾಯಿ ಹಸುವಿನ ಸೇವೆಗಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರತೀತಿಯೂ ಇದೆ. ಇದರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಗೋಮಾತೆಯ ಸೇವೆಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿಂದೆ ಅನೇಕ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದು, ಗೋವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.ಆರತಿ ತಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಹಾಕುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಗೋವಿನ ಸೇವೆಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
