ಯಜ್ಞ ರುಚಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆಕುತಿಯ ಮಗ.
ಯಜ್ಞ ಅವತಾರವು ಅಗ್ನಿ ಕುಂಡ ತ್ಯಾಗಗಳ ದೇವರು.
ಸ್ವಯಂಭುವ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ದೇವರುಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತದ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ , ವಿಷ್ಣುವು ಯಜ್ಞ ರೂಪ ಅವತರಿಸಬೇಕಾಯಿತು.
ಯಜ್ಞ ಜಿಂಕೆಯ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ದಕ್ಷನ ಯಜ್ಞದಲ್ಲಿ ವೀರಭದ್ರನಿಂದ ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಹರಿವಂಶದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಇವರನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಗೋಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಸಲು ಮೃಗಶಿರಾ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಪುಂಜ ರಚಿಸಿದರು.

He had the head of a deer and was killed by Virabhadra at Daksha’s Sacrifice. According to the Harivamsa, Brahma created the constellation Mrigasira to include him in the planetary sphere.
